Have you been taxed enough already (TEA)?
Well then, you might be interested in attending a Tea Party in your local city. In this link below, you can contact the organizer in the location nearest to you and find out how you can help out with the event in your location. http://www.teapartyday.com/Locations.aspx Here's anotha site I found in relation to the Tea Party Day. http://taxdayteaparty.com Here's a special note from the Tax Day Tea Party site. ***************** Here at TaxDayTeaParty.com we have a page with a full list of known Tea Party events for April 15th. You can check that page to ensure there isn’t already an event happening in your city/town. You’ll also want to search Facebook “Tax Day Tea Party” or “April 15 Tea Party”, along with the name of your city/town, to see if an event has already been set up.

What's their goal, Jay? Look at this quote from the home page: The Constitution, for the most part, is being ignored by our current government and we intend on working together to correct the problem.
Is that seriously believed by anyone? |

Well while it's true this event doesn't focus on smokers 100 percent, it is true that smokers are taxpayers just like the rest of America. And this event is certainly a good idea for smokers who are interested in looking into contributors within their local areas. i notice this post of mine got a positive reaction on a smokers rights-related forum.
Will this event make a difference in the long-term? Probably not. Unless some smokers nationwide "build off of this event" by organizing similar events in the future. Like maybe the idea of smokers marching in DC in the future. The only way smokers can make a difference on a national scale is if they have offline events similar to this Tea party (ie: groups of smokers protesting bans in several states throughout the nation by having a group doing civil disobedience). My hope for this April 15th event is to see if the national media pays attention to it in some kind of way. It would be hard for the media to ignore it if this party is going on in nearly all of the 50 states. An event dealing with fed-up taxpayers who smoke (even if it's a news brief on TV) would be one step of giving smoking activists attention outside of the net. In reply to that blue quote, I believe it. And the smokers at the other smokers rights forum I refer to likely believe it too. The fact fire-safes were never tested on actual humans before they were released is proof in itself that the first words of the Constitution are being ignored by the government. I guess the USA isn't "We the people" anymore. Not when "we the people" have no say in expressing our opinions on fire-safes without at least doing tests on the product before releasing it to the public. The fact smokers are usually ignored when they DO try contacting politicians directly is more proof that "We the people" isn't being followed by the government. The US is more like the land of the nannies instead of the free. And those words in the Constitution need to be changed to "We the GOVERNMENT." Because quite frankly, the government is controlling the lives of all Americans. Not just smokers. If they can introduce fire-safe cigs without saying a word to the public (and without even testing the product out before actually putting it on the market), who said the government can't make changes to other products in the future without any advanced warning to the public? Maybe one day in the store, the govt might be selling fat-free milk only. Or maybe I'll see ALL cookies and snacks (even ice cream) being "low fat, sugar free snacks) as part of a hidden US fed law I never heard about.

All this crap that the Tea Party is putting out is a joke. These guys are absolute idiots. I am sorry that Obama signed the cigarette tax increase, but do you really want the Bush administration back? He's the one that made America broke. It was on his watch that the Nation went under.
The Tea party wrote this on their website: Are you fed up with a Congress and a president who are spending trillions of borrowed dollars, leaving a debt our great-grandchildren will be paying? Yes, Jay, I am fed up. That's why I voted those guys out of office and tried this new guy out. Now, I'm upset. Where's my bong? :high: |

I have to agree with the last two posters, Jay. The economy crash happened before the election, not after it. Whether President Obama is doing a good job or not, he started his presidency with a country in shambles.
President Obama hasn't even been in office for 100 days yet. Most of the businesses I have seen closed around Palm Springs have been shut down for 6 months or more. This problem didn't just start in January 2009. By the way, the country is run by both of these parties. I think both parties are to blame, not just one or the other. As I said before, the Tea Party is not telling the truth. Anyone who starts by twisting history, is not going to stop twisting it if they ever gain power. Sure, we need tax reform, but not by people who can't remember 2008 correctly. |

Everything these days is taxes. Why can't they just leave us alone? I don't understand. The government is getting scared because the economy isn't at its best. They are raising taxes too quickly! As long as we still have the right to smoke cigarettes, then I'll be fine. Though, it's just a matter of years before the government tries to control that too!
